Patients will present to the chiropractor with many different health complaints. While there are many different adjuncts to therapy, the most commonly used tool in the chiropractor’s bag is the adjustment. When the spine is adjusted back into proper position, pressure is taken off the spinal cord and nerves.
Over time, this will allow the brain to properly communicate with the rest of the body, so that you can function, heal and recreate like you should. While chiropractic doesn’t cure disease, it allows your body to function better so that you have less aches and pains, more energy, better immunity so you can better enjoy doing the things that make life fun!
Your feet have direct impact on the rest of your body and support you with each step. A small abnormality in foot function can have a large impact on joints higher up in the body, causing pain and discomfort. The American Podiatric Medical Association says that the average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. That is a lot of walking with ill-fitting shoes or painful feet!! Women have four times as many foot problems as men because they have a long history of wearing high heels and/or pointy toe shoes.
If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your feet, ankles, knees low back, hip joints, the direct cause may be the function of your feet . Improper foot function is also related to TMJ (jaw) pain, decreased ventilation and headaches. To see how your feet are functioning, be sure to get a computerized gait assessment. From there we will be able to determine if orthotics may help you.
Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
How do overuse conditions occur? Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
• acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
• accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
• not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
What is an ART treatment like? Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.
ART is not a cookie-cutter approach. For more info see ART.
